- Deezer to mark International Women’s Day by filling the streaming service with female-only playlists
- Exclusive content has been hand-picked by female artists worldwide such as Annie Lennox and Anne-Marie
Thursday March 8th 2018: Deezer, the world’s most personal music streaming platform, is today hosting its first ever takeover by female artists to celebrate International Women’s Day and promote and champion female musicians worldwide.
Deezer is hosting exclusive playlists featuring songs by female artists and handpicked by fellow female artists around the world, in direct collaboration with the International Women’s Day charity. Chosen by the likes of Annie Lennox and Anne-Marie, each playlist includes the songs that have inspired these musicians throughout their career. Deezer’s own music editors have also provided their best picks from female artists like M.I.A and Lauryn Hill in playlists such as ‘Women of Rap’ and ‘Wonder Women’.
Music fans will easily see the takeover on Deezer’s homepage, with exclusive artist playlists co-branded with the International Women’s Day logo and its iconic purple colour. Deezer users can also discover more information about International Women’s Day within the platform and why it is such an important cause for all of us.
Sulinna Ong, VP of Artist Marketing at Deezer commented: “In 2017 less than 1 in 5 music releases were by women, and we need to work harder to encourage that to change. There are so many talented women in the music industry and streaming services like Deezer must play a part by helping promote female artists worldwide.”
Glenda Stone, Partnerships Director for International Women’s Day said: “The music industry, like many sectors, has a lot to celebrate regarding women’s achievements. Yet, there are also areas where greater progress can be made for female artists – areas like bigger media coverage, more award winning and larger sponsorship deals. We are delighted to work with Deezer to celebrate the strength and creativity of women for International Women’s Day 2018. Let’s all #PressforProgress.”
