- The global streaming company strengthens its position in Mexico one month after TV Azteca partnership
- Deezer’s TV show and original content are also attracting new fans to the app
Deezer continues to accelerate its growth in Mexico and is quickly expanding its reach throughout the country. Following the launch of its partnership with TV Azteca in July, Deezer’s active users grew by 20% in 3 months.* This firmly positions Deezer as an industry challenger in the country.
Just one month after launching its national marketing campaign with TV Azteca, Deezer became the second most downloaded music streaming app. By the end of October 2020, the app had seen more than 3 million downloads in the country. This is a 50% increase compared to the same time last year. The global streaming service also saw an increase in streams by nearly 43% between July and November, and a 13% boost in listening time across all users in Mexico during the same period.
Deezer and TV Azteca also recently made history with the launch of ‘Deezer Live.’ It is the first television music show in Mexico produced by any music streaming service. The program regularly debuts exclusive content from international Latin stars such as Ivy Queen, as well as local emerging Mexican talent, such as Dstance and Mati Gómez. Deezer’s local music editors provide additional recommendations and commentary.
“Our main focus is on growing our reach across the globe. We’re not only the largest music streaming service in France, but the second largest in Brazil and a leader in the Middle East and North Africa region.** Mexico is a long-term investment for us especially as the music industry continues to grow. We see an opportunity here for us to become the preferred music streaming app for Mexican music fans. In addition to our exclusive partnership with TV Azteca, we plan on boosting our presence in Mexico with a targeted approach that includes original content and local podcasts,” said Laurence Miall-d’Août, Chief Commercial Officer at Deezer.
Taking a much more than music approach, Deezer launched the ‘Shows Tab’ in Mexico. Since May, Mexicans have had access to global and local podcasts, including Deezer Originals and exclusive content like Azteca Esports’ gaming podcast ‘One Update’. Also, the exclusive made-for Deezer podcasts such as ‘La Ola‘ and ‘Esenciales,’ which pay tribute to legendary Latin artists and have seen a boost in streams from Mexican fans.
