Paris, Budapest, March 26, 2026 – In order to filter out recordings created without human participation and thus ensure a more proportionate distribution of royalties, the Bureau for the Protection of Performers’ Rights (Előadóművészi Jogvédő Iroda Egyesület, EJI) in Hungary has reached an agreement with the global music experience platform Deezer to acquire the usage rights for its AI Detection solution. By this step, EJI has become the first Hungarian collective management organization capable of detecting the presence of generative AI in recordings made available to the public.
EJI exclusively protects human performances and does not pay royalties for recordings created with the help of generative artificial intelligence. Until now, the practical application of this principle has been significantly hindered by the difficulty of identifying the presence of AI. Over 60,000 tracks created with AI involvement arrive on Deezer’s platform daily, accounting for approximately 39% of their daily content delivery. Deezer’s technology is designed to detect these.
This cutting-edge tool automatically recognizes and flags AI-generated recordings, thereby increasing transparency for all stakeholders in the music market. EJI and Deezer agree that AI can have a positive impact on music creation and consumption, but its use must be managed responsibly and carefully to protect the rights and revenues of musicians.
Pál Tomori, Director of EJI, welcomed the agreement, stating: “We are actively working on solutions that provide protection for artists in the competition against machines, and for this, filtering out recordings made by AI is necessary. However, this is not enough by itself, as the training of AI should only be permitted with the artists’ consent and compensation in the first place.”
“Music is a human creation and right-holders should be protected. At Deezer, this has been our commitment since our founding. Over the past years, we have built the most advanced AI detection technology in the industry and we are making it available to the entire music ecosystem. We are proud that EJI joins us in this movement for transparency and to protect the rights of human creators.” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer.
EJI and Deezer have been working together for nearly a decade to create a transparent online music market that respects the interests of all parties.
